Bruker Daltonics Limited provides state of the art instruments and solutions based on mass spectrometry technology to researchers and industrial users across a wide applications field. Products include FTMS, TOF and LC-MS spectrometers for life science and materials research, and detection systems for environmental pollutants and various chemical substances. UK sales, service and technical support activities are handled from our prestige purpose built office, laboratory and manufacturing facility in Banner Lane, Coventry, which also provides management, finance and administration facilities. The staff complement in Coventry is currently around 100 people many of whom are highly qualified and experienced scientists and engineers engaged in sales, service support, applications and product development. Bruker Daltonics Limited has its own core scientific and engineering staff.

Sales Specialist – Mass Spectrometry

to further develop our business in the UK. The aim of the job is to develop the company’s business in Tools for Life Sciences based on Mass Spectrometry, including mass spectrometry instrumentation, sample preparation robots, bioinformatics software and consumables.

The role involves all aspects of promoting and selling our cutting edge equipment to life science, chemical and environmental groups in industry and academia. A good knowledge of the challenges of life science research and the application of modern mass spectrometry is a fundamental requirement to fully understand the needs of our customers. A high degree of maturity and personal integrity is expected in a role that requires considerable self-organisation and judgement.

  • finding new customers in industry and academia using a variety of tools ranging from personal networking to internet searches
  • contributing to marketing activities such as advertisements and mailings
  • qualifying potential sales leads by discussion with customers and understanding their needs
  • arranging and hosting demonstrations in the UK, USA and Germany
  • preparing quotations and responding to EU tendering invitations
  • negotiating prices in collaboration with the parent factory and local management
  • attendance at exhibitions, seminars and conferences in the UK and abroad
  • relationship management with existing customers and assistance with post-sales activities.


To be successful the candidate will need to have:

Qualities

  • an outgoing and likeable personality with a high degree of personal integrity
  • self-motivation and a willingness to work with others toward a shared goal
  • self-discipline and the ability to decide priorities in a rapidly changing commercial environment
  • maintenance of all-round good health to meet physical and mental demands.


Qualifications

  • a high standard of verbal and written English
  • a current valid driving licence
  • BSc or equivalent in Life or Analytical Science with some postgraduate experience, either in industry or during a further qualification
  • no visa disqualification from visiting the USA or EU.


Skills and Experience

  • an understanding of the role of different mass spectrometry techniques in the life sciences
  • some laboratory experience in Mass Spectrometry applied to life science is desirable
  • sales experience is desirable though not essential for candidates strong in other aspects.


The job is likely to appeal to a commercially experienced scientist of at least BSc level looking for a uniquely challenging and rewarding role. The position involves extensive travel within the UK and irregular hours, with additional visits to USA and Europe. Candidates must be able to fulfil these requirements.
