Gel-based separation workflows

Proteomics often relies on worflows using LC-based protein or peptide separation. However, many laboratories use twodimensional gel electrophoresis as the separation methodology of choice. It remains the only separation technology that can generate isolated proteins from complex proteomes. Additionally, one dimensional SDS PAGE or IEF is a very effective way of preseparation prior to LC-based separation runs.
